The Boy Diaries: Getting His Number

Today's post is about getting your crush's phone number. . . Learn more after the jump!

Now, I'm obviously not an expert, but I know a couple things about boys. Today, I'll be talking about getting his number.

If you don't know him very well, get to know your crush better before asking for his number. Here are a couple pointers:
  • Does he play a sport? If so, do you enjoy/play the same sport? If you do, you could tell him a funny story (preferably real!). For example, you could tell him a quirky story that happened to you at the soccer field.
  • If you know he plays/played an instrument and so did you, you could casually say to your friend (a little loudly) "I wish I still played ______," or "I have a recital tomorrow." This could spark a conversation.
  • If he seems like a big jokester, you could just joke around with him and learn more about him.

Now that you know more about him, you're almost ready to ask him. However, there's a checklist you should follow.

1. Smile! A smile is the best cosmetic. If you smile, he'll smile, too. Some guys are uncomfortable with girls who are sad!
2. Confidence! If you act confident on the outside, he's more likely to give you his number. If you're nervous, just go for it! Maybe practice with your friends, if you want!
3. Something New. Wear something cute, but not overtly "crazy." If you're more of a t-shirt and jeans sort of girl, wear a new top you've never worn and a pair of your favorite jeans. If you're more of a Forever21 girl, like me, wear something adorbs from there! Maybe a cute sweater during the fall, with jeans or a skirt, and a pair of flats.
4. Clean 'n Fresh. Make sure you're looking squeaky clean! Take a shower the night before, or the right before school. Wash your hair, shave your legs, wash your face, and brush those pearly whites!
5. Smudgeless Makeup. If you're just starting out with makeup, try either wearing no makeup at all, or just a little mascara (clumpless, please!) and maybe some concealer, if you had a late night studying.

Now that you're all prepared, here are a couple ways you could go about getting his number:

1. Laid-Back Lauren
If you're close friends, you could just ask him in a laid back sort of way. For example:
  • "Hey, do you have history with Mrs. So-and-So? I haven't done the homework, yet. Can I have your number, if I have any questions?
2. Smarty-Pants Susie
If you seem to be ahead of the class in, let's say, math, you could help him out. For example:
  • "Hey do you get the math homework? If you need help, you can always text or call me."
3. Need-Help Nancy
If he seems to be ahead of the class, you could ask him for help. For example:
  • "I don't think I get the math problems. Can I get your phone number if I need help?"
4. Chatty Cathy
If you seem to talk a lot, you could start a conversation with him. If the bell rings, or you're interrupted, you could ask his number. For example:
  • "Maybe we could talk more later. Can I get your digits?"
5. Daring Daisy
If you seem to be daring/confident, just go up and ask him!

The do's and don'ts:

Do's!

  1. KISS: Keep It Simple, Stupid. Stay sweet and keep it casual! Smile and just have fun. Even if you're nervous, act as if you're not! Just go with it!
  2. Stay sweet and intelligent! Don't dumb yourself down! Don't act stupid just to get attention!
  3. Be prepared to improvise. Even if you practice with a ton of your friends, understand that there might be some chance of rejection or he might not say what you think he will. Be ready to improvise.
  4. Stay legit. If you ask for his number for help with homework, ask for his help in homework. Of course, you don't have to stick with homework as your primary excuse to speak with him, just the first couple of times you talk, ask a couple questions.

Don'ts!

  1. Don't be sexy. Don't act sexy to get his attention. This means no short skirts or low v-neck shirts, ladies! Stay tasteful and girly.
  2. Don't be obnoxious. This counts for everything. Before you ask, during, and especially after.
  3. Don't be mean. There's a fine line between teasing and being mean. If you think you'd be offended, don't say it! It's not nice or welcomed ever.
  4. Don't show off. Don't brag about grades, friends, family, clothes, or anything. You don't want to come off as being one of those girls
  5. Don't lie. Not even a white lie--if he finds out, he will think you can't keep a secret and in turn, he won't come to you for advice.

Hope this helped! I mainly wrote this to give myself more confidence. I'm asking my crush for his number on Monday and I had to write down all the things I need to do.... Hope this helped you guys! Now, of course, you don't have to follow this word-for-word, but this is what I do when asking guys I like for their numbers!

-xoxo, Anna
